The research program of IOTA addresses the full range of blinding diseases in West Africa.
The scientific planning is submitted for review to a scientific committee composed of independent personalities.
On a thematic point of view, all main blinding affections found in Africa (cataract, trachoma, glaucoma, infections, xeropthalmia, onchocerciasis) are frequently approached in 3 ways :
The training research is ensured by ophthalmologists specialised in epidemiology, biostatistics and public health. The methodological aspects (randomisation, bias control ) are therefore approached with the utmost rigor, implying the giving up of the project if not all warrantees are met.
